Hi guys!

I’ve fallen head over heels in love with this bodysuit/skirt combo ever since I picked it up a few weeks ago. I’ve been waiting for a perfect warm spring day to wear it, and thankfully Wednesday was gorgeous so I was able to bust it out! The whole outfit looks really pretty and feminine, perfect for a little lunch date downtown, and that’s exactly what Peter and I did on Wednesday afternoon. He had the day off because his truck was in for repairs so we took advantage of the perfect weather and snapped some pictures for the blog and then went for lunch!

My sickness (flu? strep throat?) is finally 100% gone!! So I’m excited to be able to enjoy this weekend without being cooped up in the house. I’m all healed up just in time for our City’s big music festival, its running this weekend and the next so I’m thrilled I’ll actually be able to attend!

Do you guys have any exciting plans coming up? I’d love to hear about it. Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for stopping by ❤

My Favorite Fashion Bloggers! *Friday Feature*

Hurray it’s Friday!

Todays post was originally going to be an outfit post from when Peter and I spent the day in Toronto this past Monday, but I lost my camera cord which means I can’t get the pictures onto my laptop (insert crying emoji)! I’m so confused because I have no idea where it could have gone, my only guess it that I accidentally threw it out when I was sick. I’ll have to go buy a new one this weekend and hopefully have the post up on Monday for you guys!

Instead today’s post is a Friday feature all about my favorite bloggers! I’ve never really shared what blogs I read and am inspired by, so today that’s exactly what I’m going to do. My favorite type of blogs to read are the same niche as my own, of course. So they’re all women’s Fashion and Lifestyle blogs. With the kind of writing style I connect with the most, bubbly and fun, almost like your best friend is talking to you when your reading through the posts.

I have two absolute favorite blogger crushes and they are  ‘Southern Curls and Pearls‘ (Caitlyn Covington) and ‘The Sweetest Thing‘ (Emily Ann Gemma) These girls are the cutest, and are actually blogger BFF’s in real life, which is so nice to see. Their outfit posts are actually things you’ll want to wear and most are all pieces from Nordstrom or Zara which is totally attainable for the everyday woman. Their blogs are bright and girly and not just strictly fashion either, they share beauty tricks, travel reviews, fitness tips, recipes and more… I get so inspired by these two and I hope you guys check them out, because I know you’ll love them just as much as I do!  …and did I mention they both are #hairgoals (seriously though!)

Current Makeup Favorites!

Hey Guys,

Today I’m talking makeup, and why I ditched my whole collection and started a fresh beauty routine!

So my whole make-up over haul started when my hands-down-#1-FAVORITE foundation (Maybelline Dream Smooth Mouse) was discontinued, which I’ve been using for what feels like my whole makeup-wearing life! It was more of a thick mousy consistency, and it gave me the most flawless finish with such good coverage. I had tried a bunch of liquid foundations during my time using this foundation (only because I worked in a makeup department at the time and was always tempted to buy the newest products) but never found anything that compared to this Maybelline foundation.

My next step was to go to Sephora to get my Color IQ, which was great because they were able to suggest a variety of different foundations that would match my skin colour. So I brought home a few samples and found one that I loved. The only problem was that my new foundation was so good that it made the rest of my makeup seem like bad quality…so I decided to just go for a fresh start and totally over haul my collection. I’ve compiled all my new favorites down below, in case any of you are looking for some new high quality products to add to your collection!

*I made sure to wait two months before sharing this post so I knew for sure that these products were as good as my first impression and worth the money.

makeupfavs Concealer / Foundation / Beauty Sponge / Translucent Powder (Comparable & less expensive version here) / BronzerEye Shadow PalletCOVERGIRL Mascara / L’oreal Mascara /

Concealer

I tried a few Sephora concealers but I didn’t find they were any better then this drugstore one I bought, so I ended up sticking with this one. It has great coverage and consistency, not too thick that it cakes up, but just thick enough to actually cover any blemishes or dark circles. It will crease (like every other concealer) a little bit if you don’t set it with some powder, but once you do it looks amazing all day!

Foundation

This year I’ve noticed my skin is a little more dry then normal so I had a really hard time finding the right foundation because they all made my face look super dry. This one is the holy grail for full coverage, and hydration for a flawless look.

Beauty Sponge

I always used those little triangle sponges that you can get at any drugstore and never understood the whole ‘Beauty Blender’ faze…but boy am I glad I gave it a try because it’s a game changer! I didn’t buy the actual Beauty Blender brand because they are triple the price of this Real Techniques one and I wanted to test the waters with a more affordable option. Its only a matter of time before I invest though, because these things work wonders(insert praise hands emoji).

Translucent Powder

I use this to ‘bake’ my under eye concealer as well as to set my whole face. I love how this powder isn’t stark white so your face doesn’t look powdery like most other translucent powders. The colour is more of a light beige so it blends into your foundation perfectly!

Bronzer

I have really fair skin so I use this product to contour my face. It’s the perfect matte brown, not orangey at all…and smells like milk chocolate, what!?!

Eye Shadow Pallet

I have literally been coveting this pallet since it came out like 3(?) or so years ago – its been a WHILE. My sister surprised me with it on Christmas and I’ve been using it ever since. I already had a few single eye shadows from the same brand so I’m familiar with Urban Decay quality and it’s amazing to say the least, the colours are rich and don’t fade throughout the day, this pallet is no exception.

Mascara

I have been using these two mascaras for a little longer then all the other products I’ve mentioned because I love the way they pair together(and the price tag!). I used to use Givenchy mascara and I would say the look I get from layering the Telescopic followed by the Last Blast Fusion is sooo comparable to the Givenchy mascara and half the price!

I hope you enjoyed today’s post!

Best Friend Tag!

sisters

Happy Friday friends,

I’m spending today with my BFF Rebecca, so we thought it would be fun to do the best friend tag since we’ve known each other for sooooo long. I feel like our answers will be pretty funny and a good insight into what kind of relationship we have. So lets jump right into it!

1.How and when did you meet?

Rebecca: Melissa and I met in grade six. I was eating Dunk-a-roos,and she was eyeing them from the desk across from mine. Sprinkle icing. Her favorite. We’ve been friends ever since.

Melissa: It was the rainbow sprinkle icing that sealed the friendship deal, for sure.

2. What’s your favorite memory together?

Rebecca: In grade six, Melissa and I used to beg our parents to let us get books from the Scholastic book orders. Little did they know, what we actually spent their money on, was NOT books. We plotted to get these weird little spy kits, that gave us access to everything our families were talking about. It came with a sound amplifier, binoculars, and a magnifying glass. We once listened to a full episode of Friends through that thing, while convinced we were hearing some real hot goss.

Melissa: Okay yeah, I looooove those super spy days hahaha but my all time favorite memory was when Rebecca moved back from Arizona after 4 years away, and my dad drove me to pick her up and we spent that whole next week inseparable doing as many fun things as we could because we were so happy she was finally back for good!

3. Describe each other in one word.

Rebecca: Weird-sunshine-apple tree-bundle of joy. Sorry, I had a hard time narrowing that down. That counts as one word, right?

Melissa: Hilarious-bubbly-kind ….one word 😉

4. What’s her dream job?

Rebecca: She’s literally doing it. She wants to be a fashion blogger!  – Thanks for havin’ me, Meliss! (Does this mean I’m famous now? Cause I’ve always wanted to be…).

Melissa: Is being famous a dream job? Because that’s what she wants, haha!

5. What’s her favorite makeup brand?

Rebecca: That’s literally the most impossible question. You guys/gals don’t even know how much make-up this woman has. When I ask her to do my face, (which is often) there’s like 14 different brands on that thing.

Melissa:  She doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, but she does really like Too-faced!

6. What is something that annoys you about the other person?

Rebecca: She won’t commit to coming to Europe with me this summer. SO annoying.

Melissa: She keeps begging me to come to Europe with her this summer. SO annoying. hahaha

7. If you could go anywhere in the world together, where would it be?

Rebecca: EUROPE, MELISS. IT’S A SIGN!

Melissa: okay, okay, Europe would be amazing but I really want to go to HAWAII!

8. Favorite inside joke?

Rebecca: One time, Mel and I planned on watching Harry Potter for like weeks. I couldn’t wait. We made french-fries and were ready for the occasion. We ran downstairs with them and I yell, “time to watch some Harry Potts!” As this is happening, I run face first into the door and knock down the painting on the other side. We literally laugh about it to this day.

Melissa: Yesssss! (insert praise hands emoji x5)

9. Who takes longer to get ready in the morning?

Rebecca: Melissa takes hours. I use Snapchat filters and pretend I’m just as beautiful.

Melissa: Suuure…. There’s no pretending going on here, shes just naturally beautiful so she doesn’t need to do much.

10. Favorite season?

Rebecca: Mel loves fall more than anything on this earth. She prepares for it the whole summer.

Melissa: Rebecca is a summer lover, she thrives in the heat! Like a lizard in the desert!

11. Favorite song?

Rebecca: Um. I don’t believe she has one, because she loves all of them. Every song is her favorite song, but she loves that new ZAYN & Taylor Swift tune!

Melissa: I feel like we both enjoy new music that comes out, but we don’t necessarily hold onto just one song as our favorite. It changes from month-to-month. But she lovesss Drake, and Chance the Rapper.

12. What is it like being best friends with someone who is obsessed with blogging?

Rebecca: It’s hilarious and awesome at the same time. I’ll be scrollin’ through my Instagram (which is usually full of cute puppies and funny memes) and see cute little Meliss pop up in some classy outfit I dream of having. I laugh and give it a like every time! Her life is cooler than mine.

Melissa: I wouldn’t know hahahaha but if you asked me what it’s like to be best friends with someone who wants to be famous, I’d say its pretty great. (And very entertaining).

13. Heels or flats?

Rebecca: She never wears heels. Us tall people don’t speak that language.

Melissa: What she said! ^^

14. Comedy, horror, or chick-flick?

Rebecca: Comedy. Only because she is seven at heart and will watch the movie ‘Sleepover’ and ‘Halloweentown’ over and over again. And you know what? I’m into it.

Melissa: Rebecca will literally watch anything.

15. What is something weird that she eats?

Rebecca: When we were young, Mel always used to always have these weird sandwiches with chocolate sprinkles and butter on them. I thought it was super weird. Until I tried one. THEY’RE AMAZING, and apparently they’re super Dutch or something which is cool.

Melissa: I specifically remember a time I ate dinner at her house when we were kids, and they had spaghetti squash and I was so weirded out; but looking back on it now spaghetti squash is pretty normal! hahaha

16. You guys have anything matching?

Rebecca: We actually have matching red winter coats, it’s super funny.

Melissa: And matching gold iPhones!

Thanks so much for reading, and have an amazing weekend!

Making Plans For 2017!

making2017resolution-2

Happy New Year Everyone!!

I’m always interested to hear what everyone’s resolutions are for 2017! For me, I’m determined to make 2017 one of the best years yet! Which means I want to make my blog more of a priority and step it up another level. I just received my new camera in the mail a few weeks ago and I want to start adding video vlogs/tutorials into my usual posting schedule, would this be something you guys are interested in seeing? I’m thinking of adding more ‘outfit of the day’ posts as well and getting back into my Monday, Wednesday, Friday posting routine. If you have any other suggestions or requests for blog posts or things you’d like to see, I’d love to hear them!

Anyways I wanted to give you a bit of an update on what I’ve been up to because I haven’t done a ‘talking’ post in a while. So I finished my first online course for social media marketing and I loved it, I found it really interesting and was actually pretty good at it (school was never my thing). So I’m going to try to sign up for another course in fall of this year. As for right now I’m working full time again in retail and trying to balance the whole work/life/blog/fitness thing. Which I’m still getting the hang of, but I want to make sure this year I’m working as hard as I can on my blog because this is what I’m really passionate about.

I’m going to add my twitter feed into my side bar and use that to update you guys on things that I’m working on, announcements, and updates. So follow me there for extra content ❤

I’ll link up all my social accounts below:

Thanks for following my life through 2016, and cheers to another year of learning and growing together!

My Fall Morning Routine!

img_5076

Good morning, Friends!

Today I’m trying something a little different, and sharing how a typical fall morning looks through my eyes. I always enjoy reading ‘routine’ posts from my favorite bloggers so I thought I would do my own! If you’ve read my blog before, you’d probably know that fall is my favorite season. There’s just something about the crisp air, and gorgeous tree colours that gives me a little extra energy to stay motivated and get things done. Work, school, gym, hobbies,  I seem to have energy for it all in the fall! Here’s what a typical morning working from home looks like for me:

7:50 am: My first alarm goes off, I turn it off

7:55 am: My Second alarm goes off, I turn it off

8 am: Third alarm goes off and I actually wake up this time (I’m totally one of those people who sets like 5 alarms before they need to wake up lol!) I lay in bed for 10 – 15 minutes with my phone, catching up on any notifications I may have gotten over night. This helps ease me into actually getting out of bed after waking up!

8:15 am: I make a tea (English breakfast) and my favorite porridge with brown sugar and cinnamon. I love eating porridge in the fall and winter because it’s so warm and filling, and I always find myself craving spices like cinnamon in the cooler months.

8:25 am: I schedule my blog posts to publish at 6am each morning, so as I eat my breakfast and enjoy my tea I will proofread my post over again, check how well it’s preforming, and email or comment back to anyone who wrote to me.

8:50 am: I like to take 10 minutes each morning and plan out what I need to get done that day. This is when I pull out my Kate Spade notebook and start my to-do list!

9 am: If I’m taking blog pictures that day I will shower and start getting my outfits steamed and ready for my shoot /// If I’m writing beauty or lifestyle posts that day I’ll go to the gym for an hour, and shower, before I get started on that.

10:30/11 am:  It’s time to do my makeup and get dressed for the day!

12 noon: By now I’ve got a good grip on my day and am ready to conquer my to-do list and get blog posts ready!

And that’s what a typical fall morning looks like for me.

Do you make any changes to your routine in the fall? Let me know in the comments below.
