Current Makeup Favorites!

Hey Guys,

Today I’m talking makeup, and why I ditched my whole collection and started a fresh beauty routine!

So my whole make-up over haul started when my hands-down-#1-FAVORITE foundation (Maybelline Dream Smooth Mouse) was discontinued, which I’ve been using for what feels like my whole makeup-wearing life! It was more of a thick mousy consistency, and it gave me the most flawless finish with such good coverage. I had tried a bunch of liquid foundations during my time using this foundation (only because I worked in a makeup department at the time and was always tempted to buy the newest products) but never found anything that compared to this Maybelline foundation.

My next step was to go to Sephora to get my Color IQ, which was great because they were able to suggest a variety of different foundations that would match my skin colour. So I brought home a few samples and found one that I loved. The only problem was that my new foundation was so good that it made the rest of my makeup seem like bad quality…so I decided to just go for a fresh start and totally over haul my collection. I’ve compiled all my new favorites down below, in case any of you are looking for some new high quality products to add to your collection!

*I made sure to wait two months before sharing this post so I knew for sure that these products were as good as my first impression and worth the money.

makeupfavs Concealer / Foundation / Beauty Sponge / Translucent Powder (Comparable & less expensive version here) / BronzerEye Shadow PalletCOVERGIRL Mascara / L’oreal Mascara /

I tried a few Sephora concealers but I didn’t find they were any better then this drugstore one I bought, so I ended up sticking with this one. It has great coverage and consistency, not too thick that it cakes up, but just thick enough to actually cover any blemishes or dark circles. It will crease (like every other concealer) a little bit if you don’t set it with some powder, but once you do it looks amazing all day!

This year I’ve noticed my skin is a little more dry then normal so I had a really hard time finding the right foundation because they all made my face look super dry. This one is the holy grail for full coverage, and hydration for a flawless look.

Beauty Sponge

I always used those little triangle sponges that you can get at any drugstore and never understood the whole ‘Beauty Blender’ faze…but boy am I glad I gave it a try because it’s a game changer! I didn’t buy the actual Beauty Blender brand because they are triple the price of this Real Techniques one and I wanted to test the waters with a more affordable option. Its only a matter of time before I invest though, because these things work wonders(insert praise hands emoji).

Translucent Powder

I use this to ‘bake’ my under eye concealer as well as to set my whole face. I love how this powder isn’t stark white so your face doesn’t look powdery like most other translucent powders. The colour is more of a light beige so it blends into your foundation perfectly!

I have really fair skin so I use this product to contour my face. It’s the perfect matte brown, not orangey at all…and smells like milk chocolate, what!?!

Eye Shadow Pallet

I have literally been coveting this pallet since it came out like 3(?) or so years ago – its been a WHILE. My sister surprised me with it on Christmas and I’ve been using it ever since. I already had a few single eye shadows from the same brand so I’m familiar with Urban Decay quality and it’s amazing to say the least, the colours are rich and don’t fade throughout the day, this pallet is no exception.

I have been using these two mascaras for a little longer then all the other products I’ve mentioned because I love the way they pair together(and the price tag!). I used to use Givenchy mascara and I would say the look I get from layering the Telescopic followed by the Last Blast Fusion is sooo comparable to the Givenchy mascara and half the price!

I hope you enjoyed today’s post!

Making Plans For 2017!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

I’m always interested to hear what everyone’s resolutions are for 2017! For me, I’m determined to make 2017 one of the best years yet! Which means I want to make my blog more of a priority and step it up another level. I just received my new camera in the mail a few weeks ago and I want to start adding video vlogs/tutorials into my usual posting schedule, would this be something you guys are interested in seeing? I’m thinking of adding more ‘outfit of the day’ posts as well and getting back into my Monday, Wednesday, Friday posting routine. If you have any other suggestions or requests for blog posts or things you’d like to see, I’d love to hear them!

Anyways I wanted to give you a bit of an update on what I’ve been up to because I haven’t done a ‘talking’ post in a while. So I finished my first online course for social media marketing and I loved it, I found it really interesting and was actually pretty good at it (school was never my thing). So I’m going to try to sign up for another course in fall of this year. As for right now I’m working full time again in retail and trying to balance the whole work/life/blog/fitness thing. Which I’m still getting the hang of, but I want to make sure this year I’m working as hard as I can on my blog because this is what I’m really passionate about.

I’m going to add my twitter feed into my side bar and use that to update you guys on things that I’m working on, announcements, and updates. So follow me there for extra content <3

I’ll link up all my social accounts below:

Thanks for following my life through 2016, and cheers to another year of learning and growing together!

Festive In Fair Isle!

Hat – Danier Leather (not online) / Similar Jacket / Top / Scarf / Jeans / Bag / Pom Pom – Town Shoes (not online) / Boots

Happy Friday everyone!!

For todays post, I’m sharing my new favorite Fair Isle scarf because it literally looks like a winter wonderland! I dont normally buy scarves from Aldo but when I saw this one in the store I fell inlove instantly. I’m thinking of wearing it on Christmas eve with a cream mock neck sweater, because it looks especially festive paired with other cream pieces!

Anyway… I still cant believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve! Where has December gone!? I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend filled with family and fun!

Merry Christmas!

The Best Sugar Cookie Recipe For The Holidays!!

Hi guys!!

Last week I mentioned that every year around Christmas my mom, sister and I bake up a huge batch of sugar cookies and spend a whole night decorating them. Well this passed weekend we did just that and today I’m sharing the recipe for the best sugar cookies ever!!

If you love soft baked chewy cookies you are going to love these, I promise.

Our Famous Sugar Cookie Recipe: (Makes one batch)

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

2 cups flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter

1 egg

1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1 tablespoon milk

  1. When you start making the dough – first combine all the dry ingredients in one bowl and all the wet ingredients in another (separate) bowl. After that is complete then mix both bowls of ingredients together.
  2. Then divide it up by batch (if your making more then one batch) and cover in saran wrap. Keep it in the fridge over night to cool – or approx 4 hours until dough has cooled
  3. Next, roll your dough out (not too thin) using flour on the counter.
  4. Once you’ve got the dough rolled out grab your festive cookie cutters and go to town!
  5. Bake at 350 for 10(ish) minutes. You want to ensure these don’t over cook. I usually wait 8 mins and then keep an eye on them for the last few minutes.

**Depending on the thickness of the dough they may take a little shorter or a little longer then 10 minutes.

Now for the best part….the decorating!

We like to make all different colours of icing just by adding food colouring to our icing recipe, which is just a bit of melted butter, milk, and icing sugar.

We don’t follow an exact recipe for this because we make so many different sizes of icing batches depending on the colour. Just keep adding icing sugar to your butter and milk mixture until you get to your desired consistency.

**You don’t want runny icing if your making designs on your cookies, so be generous with the icing sugar 🙂img_5533

I love making some of my sugar cookies into Belgium cookies by just adding some jam in the middle of two cookies and a little icing on the top! These taste amazingggg, you have to try them if you haven’t already!

and Voila!

If you try this recipe I would love to hear what you thought of it. Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week.
